The amazing Steve Schenkenberger is in need of our help! Steve was riding his mountain bike on Super Bowl Sunday in February around 8pm on Niguel & Ridgeway Avenue and he was struck by a hit-and-run driver. Steve sustained severe injures in his brain. He had emergency surgery the same night where they removed a piece of skull to relieve pressure. Steve was at Mission hospital for weeks and then transferred to another facility for additional treatment and care. He has had multiple surgeries and been under 24/7 care since the accident occurred.

Steve is currently in Colorado at Craig Hospital undergoing intensive brain trauma treatment. This is only the beginning of Steve's massive road to recovery. He is going to need SO much time and energy, there's just no way Lori can not do it all on her own. She needs prayers for Steve's young boys missing and needing their dad, prayers for trust... knowing nothing of the outcome of Steve having DAI, a severe TBI (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diffuse_axonal_injury). Lori needs prayers for support, paying for life with 5 young boys, medical expenses (are already well over $500,000) and that's just the beginning... Steve won't be capable of being the financial provider for many years to come....prayers for the reality of this new life when Steve comes back home, the chaos of raising 5 kids, cooking dinners, making lunches, taking them to schools, taking him to therapies, modifying cars for wheel chair accessibility, paying monthly bills, figuring out ways to pay bills, making sure each one of their kids are loved and cared for!

The #1 way to help the family right now is to either send them Trader Joe’s/Costco/Target gift cards, a check or donate online with the Plumfund link.

If mailing a check for $1,000+, you can make your donation TAX DEDUCTIBLE!

Follow the instructions below for sending gift cards or donations made by check:

Payable to: Optivest Foundation

c/o Trish Van Mourick

187 Monarch Bay

Dana Point, CA 92629

Write “Schenkenberger” in the memo section of the check.

If you’d like to mail gift cards or a check under $1,000:

Payable to: Lori Schenkenberger

Mail to: The Schenkenbergers

Attn: Mike Perry

5200 DTC Parkway, Suite 200

Greenwood Village, CO 80111

Thank you so much for following Steve's story, for praying and for everything you've given so far. The community God has provided is amazing. Prayers that the community of helpers sticks by their side!

Latest Update

We are asking desperately for donations to help buy a Sprinter Van. A Sprinter Van is the ONLY way that it is going to be possible to get Steve and all five kids transported to the weekly doctor visits, treatment appointments, and school/activities. A Sprinter Van provides wheelchair accessibility and enough seating to fit all five children. This is a VITAL requirement for the Schenkenberger’s to be able to survive as a family unit and for Steve to be given a chance to continue intensive care. Steve is getting discharged from Craig Hospital on August 31st, where he has been undergoing intensive in-patient therapy. They HAVE to purchase this van before his discharge in order for him to participate in out-patient therapy and continue vital treatment that will determine the course of the rest of his and his family’s life. Every penny helps; please spread the word and share this update on Facebook! Thank you!

Steve and the family need your prayers now and help more than EVER. From Lori: "I don't have the words to describe the past couple of days so I'll just say this...I'm so sorry to any one who has gone through a traumatic life experience and to those who haven't, I pray you never do."

"Father, come rescue Steve, heal his body, & restore him completely. Guide the staff and give them expertise. Renew Steves weary family with energy, support, & hope. Protect Steve's brain and body. We lift up every detail to you. Every decision. They need hope. Allow Steve progress and good days ahead. Keep the enemies attacks far from this family in Jesus name. Lift their burdens, fill their minds with peace, and remove any doubts & fears. Refresh them. Be with the children. Guard them with your mighty angels and fill their days with love and laughter. We cry out to you on the family's behalf. We praise you. We claim victory in Christ. In Jesus name, amen." Sending love your way. Praying for a miracle!

An update from Lori: "Wednesday; Steve gets Ritalin to try and keep him awake to pass his Barium swallow test. He wasn't awake enough. Failed the test. Thursday; seizures start. Friday morning; seizures continue. Gets a CAT scan and shows more fluid buildup under his skull flap. Friday afternoon; move Steve to the neurological/epileptic floor of Swedish Hospital. Gets an EEG for numerous days. The seizures continue all day about every 5 to 10 minutes. He is given seizure medication to try and help. Friday night; 7pm Steve starts barfing and choking & barfing and choking. about seven different times through out the night. Steve is exhausted. And so are we. Seizures die down till about 7 AM Saturday morning; the last seizure happened. Finally. Sunday; still no seizure activity. Steve Steve is struggling and in pain. Strong meds are given to help Steve sleep, heal & not be in pain. Still waiting for the discharge date back to Craig hospital. Waiting to remove the EEG. Waiting on MRI."

Thank you everyone for the insanely generous donations for the Schenkenberger's! We are all speechless of how incredible it is that the community has rallied around their family through this hard time. As you can see, I have just upped the goal number amount. The bills are coming out to be much higher than we originally anticipated. Again, thank you to every person that has donated; every penny makes a difference. Let's keep praying and spreading the word! xx

I went to the prayer meeting last night in the Chapel at Mission Hospital tower 2. It was incredible and they prayers are heart wrenching and beautiful. It was optional to pray out loud for the group and those that did so were very effective and raw. I will continue to pray daily, boldly and I am sure the outcome will be complete health restored, God needs Steve on earth to do what he does best, being Steve.
